Tools and guides for Revit MEP work.

I build tools for the Revit jobs I keep repeating, and I write down what I test. Start with the toolkit, the MCP guide or the Ideas board.

Revit version check

Available / 2024–2025 tested

Find out which Revit version saved a file, whether yours can open it, and what you can do if it can’t.

  • The file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Works with .rvt, .rfa, .rte and .rft files.
  • Honest about downgrading: what works, what doesn’t.

L02Test log

What I have tested.

The checks behind the stamps. I ran them myself, on my own machine.

FARIS Toolkit

Limited Self-Test record
TestResult
Current 1.0 package: Self-Test in Revit 2024.3.6038 passed, 1 failed; linked-model case untested
Current 1.0 package: Self-Test in Revit 2025.5Reports 39; linked-model case untested
Automated logic testsOlder suite; 1.0 unverified

Current release review: sleeve-placement failure and setup classification warning. Self-Test checks core logic and Revit operations on temporary elements in one test model. It is not a full test of every tool. The recorded 39 passes include a linked-model case that was not exercised; treat that case as untested. Workshared coverage is also unverified.

These tests ran on my setup. Yours may differ, so try new tools on a copy of the model first and check each change.

L03Field notes

About these notes.

These are my notes on BIM work: the tools I build, the setups I test and what I learn on real Revit MEP jobs. I keep them short, and I keep what I tested apart from what is still an idea.

What I aim for

  1. Setup steps you can follow one at a time.
  2. Common errors and the checks that fix them, written down so you lose less time.
  3. Real Revit MEP use cases, not theory.
  4. Version details on every guide, so you know what I tested on.
  5. A clear line between what I tested and what is still an idea.

Credits

I design, build and test the FARIS Toolkit myself.

The Revit MCP guide builds on LuDattilo's revit-mcp-server project on GitHub. Where a guide uses someone else's work, I credit it and link to the source.

Stuck on a Revit task?

Tell me about it on the Ideas board. Questions and support for the FARIS Toolkit go there too.
