FARIS Toolkit 1.0 / 8 commands
Coordination
Use these tools to find clashes, tight gaps and sleeve locations, check your links, and set up coloured 3D views for coordination. You can then send the results out as one Excel issue list.

A useful order of work
- Before a clash run, open Linked Model Inspector to check each link's status, whether it is pinned, and that it has only one instance.
- Run Clash Candidate Finder, Clearance Checker and Sleeve Candidate Finder, then open Issue Report Exporter to turn their results into one numbered Excel issue list.
- Export before you run a check again: each new run replaces the last list of that kind and restarts the issue numbers.
- Use Find Sleeves to review and agree sleeve sizes, then Place Sleeves to put the sleeves in with the same options. Create views with Coord Views, then colour them with Colour Coord.
Commands and practical limits
These instructions describe intended behaviour from the user guide. They are not evidence that every command has passed final-package testing in Revit. Save a copy of your model before commands that change it.
Clash Candidate Finder Read-only check
Lists where MEP elements of the categories you tick intersect building or MEP elements in your model and/or loaded links, as candidates to review.
Ribbon button: Clashes
- If you want to check against other disciplines, make sure their Revit links are loaded.
- Click Clash Candidate Finder, choose the Scope and tick the MEP categories to check.
- Under Check against, tick the categories to test against and choose host model and/or loaded links.
- Tick Exact geometry test for solid intersections, or untick it for a quicker bounding-box check.
- Run it, then double-click a row or use Select & Zoom to review each candidate.
Before you run it: The results are candidates, not verified clashes, so review each one. Use Save Excel... to keep the list, or open Issue Report Exporter to number it.
Clearance Checker Read-only check
Lists pairs of straight ducts, pipes, cable trays, conduits and flex runs that sit closer together than your minimum clearance.
Ribbon button: Clearance
- Click Clearance Checker, choose the Scope and tick the categories to measure.
- Enter the minimum clearance in mm (default 25 mm).
- Tick Include insulation if the insulation thickness should be added to each run's size.
- Run it. Pairs are listed closest first, and a negative gap means the runs overlap.
- Double-click a row or use Select & Zoom to look at each pair.
Before you run it: It measures runs in your host model only, not in links. Open Issue Report Exporter afterwards to add the pairs to your issue list.
Sleeve Candidate Finder Read-only check
Finds where your straight pipes, ducts, cable trays and conduits pass through walls, floors, framing, roofs or ceilings, and suggests a sleeve size for each. It sizes sleeves only and doesn't check the structure or its fire rating.
Ribbon button: Find Sleeves
- Open the Sleeves drop-down and click Find Sleeves.
- Choose the Scope, tick the run categories, and choose host model, loaded links or both.
- Set the clearance each side and the rounding step (both 25 mm by default), and choose whether to add insulation.
- Run it. Each crossing is listed with its sleeve size and host thickness.
- Use Select & Zoom to check each crossing, then Save Excel... or open Issue Report Exporter.
Before you run it: Crossings that already have a family named "sleeve" or "opening" in your model show as info, so you can see which ones are already done.
Sleeve Placement Assistant Changes the model
Places a sized sleeve family in your model at each crossing it finds, turned to the run, even where the wall or floor is in a link. Openings in structure need the structural engineer's approval first.
Ribbon button: Place Sleeves
- Load a sleeve family that is non-hosted, level-based or work-plane-based, with size and length instance parameters.
- Open the Sleeves drop-down, click Place Sleeves, and set the same options you used in Find Sleeves.
- Choose the Horizontal and Vertical sleeve families, type their size and length parameter names, and set extend each end.
- Check the preview, untick rows you don't want, and tick All or nothing if one failure should roll back everything.
- Confirm, then use Select & Zoom on the results to check the placed sleeves.
Before you run it: Try it on a copy of the model first. One Ctrl+Z undoes the whole run, and running it again skips crossings that already have a sleeve.
Linked Model Inspector Read-only check
Reports on every Revit link and CAD file in the model, so you can spot link problems before you coordinate.
Ribbon button: Links
- Open the host model with its Revit links and click Linked Model Inspector.
- For each link, check its status, path, number of instances, and whether it is pinned.
- Look for link levels that share a host level name but have a different elevation.
- Review the CAD rows for imported CAD and for linked CAD that is unpinned or current-view-only.
- Use Select & Zoom to find an item, and Save Excel... to keep the report.
Before you run it: The report only points out problems, and you fix them yourself in Revit. A link with more than one instance is flagged as a warning.
Coordination Colorizer Changes the model
Colours whole categories or whole linked models in the active view, so each trade or model is easy to tell apart.
Ribbon button: Colour Coord
- Open the plan, section, elevation or 3D view you want to colour.
- Open the Coord Views drop-down and click Colour Coord.
- Set one row per category or linked model: colour, transparency % and halftone. Press Enter after each cell edit.
- If the view's template controls Visibility/Graphics, decide whether to tick change the template.
- Check the preview and confirm.
Before you run it: To remove the colours later, run it again and use Reset listed targets. Changing a template affects every view that uses it, so check first.
Coordination View Generator Creates views and sheets
Creates 3D coordination views with a section box, one per level or one per scope box, named with a prefix you choose.
Ribbon button: Coord Views
- Open the Coord Views drop-down and click Coord Views.
- Choose per level or per scope box, and tick the ones you want.
- Set the name prefix and, if you want, pick a 3D view template.
- Choose whether existing views with the same name get their section box updated or are skipped.
- Check the preview and confirm. The first new view opens afterwards.
Before you run it: Run it again with the section box update chosen to refresh existing views after levels change. It never makes duplicates, and Colour Coord can then colour the views.
Issue Report Exporter Exports files
Turns the saved results of the clash, clearance and sleeve checks into a numbered Excel issue list, with an optional 3D view per issue.
Ribbon button: Issue Report
- Run Clash Candidate Finder, Clearance Checker and/or Sleeve Candidate Finder first.
- Click Issue Report Exporter and tick the saved lists (Clash, Clearance, Sleeve) to export.
- For a 3D view per issue, tick that option and set the box size, maximum number of views and name prefix.
- Run the export. Each check gets its own sheet in Excel.
Before you run it: Leave 3D view per issue unticked if you only want the Excel file. Use the Assigned To and Comments columns to track each issue.
