FARIS Toolkit 1.0 / 8 commands

QA/QC

These eight checks find problems in your model without changing anything. Use them to audit a model or to tidy your own work before you sync or share it.

A useful order of work

  • Start with Model Health when you take over a model or start a new stage. It is a safe first tool and shows the overall state.
  • Run Pre-Sync before every Sync with Central, then open the detailed check each line points to, such as Open Ends or System Assignment Checker.
  • Run System Assignment Checker before system-based tools such as MEP View Filter Builder, System Visibility Manager or Color by System.
  • Pair each check with its fixing tool: Workset Compliance Checker with Workset Organizer, Template Compliance Checker with Apply View Templates, and Size & Elevation Checker with Pipe/Duct Elevation Editor.

Commands and practical limits

These instructions describe intended behaviour from the user guide. They are not evidence that every command has passed final-package testing in Revit. Save a copy of your model before commands that change it.

Model Health Audit Read-only check

Gives you a health report on the model, including Revit warnings by type, file size, in-place families, imported CAD and unloaded links.

Ribbon button: Model Health

  1. Click Model Health on the QA/QC panel.
  2. Choose whether to count purgeable elements. Answer No on big models if you don't need that count.
  3. Review the report: warnings by type, file size, families, CAD, links, groups, design options, spaces and views.
  4. Double-click a row or use Select & Zoom to see an example element.
  5. Use Save Excel... or Save CSV... to keep the report.

Before you run it: Counting purgeable elements can take minutes on big models. The toolkit never purges anything, even when it counts them.

Unconnected End Checker Read-only check

Lists every open duct, pipe, cable tray or conduit end, including open connectors on fittings and equipment.

Ribbon button: Open Ends

  1. Click Open Ends and choose the Scope (whole model, active view or current selection).
  2. Choose which connectors to check: HVAC, Piping and/or Tray & conduit.
  3. Run the check. Each open end is listed with its size, position and level.
  4. Double-click a row or use Select & Zoom to go to it, then connect or cap it.
  5. Run the check again to confirm the list is clear.

Before you run it: Caps count as connected. Run it after rerouting or deleting part of a system to find the ends that were left open.

System Assignment Checker Read-only check

Finds ducts and pipes with no system, and fittings, accessories, terminals and equipment whose connectors aren't in a system.

Ribbon button: No System

  1. Click System Assignment Checker, choose the Scope and tick the categories to include.
  2. Run the check. Each element without a system is listed with its element id.
  3. Read each row's message. "n of m connectors" means only some connectors are missing a system.
  4. Double-click a row or use Select & Zoom, then connect it or assign the system in Revit.
  5. Run the check again to confirm.

Before you run it: It is a quick way to find free-standing air terminals or equipment that were never connected to a system.

Duplicate Element Finder Read-only check

Finds elements with the same category, type and position, so you can remove copies placed on top of each other.

Ribbon button: Duplicates

  1. Click Duplicates, choose the Scope and tick the categories to include.
  2. Set the tolerance (default 1 mm).
  3. Run the check. Each group shows the original as an Info row and the copies as Warning rows.
  4. Double-click a row or use Select & Zoom to review each group.
  5. Delete the copies yourself in Revit, then run the check again.

Before you run it: Run it after copying, pasting or importing, or when quantities look too high. Nothing is deleted for you, so review each group first.

Size & Elevation Checker Read-only check

Checks pipes, ducts, cable trays, conduits and flex runs against your size and height rules and lists every run that breaks one.

Ribbon button: Size & Height

  1. Click Size & Elevation Checker and choose the Scope.
  2. In the rules table, fill in a row for each category you want to check.
  3. Enter Min/Max size (mm) and/or Min bottom height / Max top height (mm). Leave a cell empty to skip it.
  4. Type text in System contains to limit a rule to certain systems. Press Enter after each cell edit.
  5. Run the check, then use Select & Zoom to find each run that breaks a rule.

Before you run it: Heights are measured from each run's own reference level. To fix heights, use Pipe/Duct Elevation Editor on the MEP Modeling panel.

Workset Compliance Checker Read-only check

In a workshared model, checks that elements are on the workset your rules expect for their category.

Ribbon button: Worksets

  1. Open a workshared model and click Workset Compliance Checker.
  2. Set the rules: one category and its expected workset per row. Press Enter after each cell edit.
  3. If you want, tick the option to also flag MEP elements left on Workset1 or Shared Levels and Grids.
  4. Run the check. Each element on the wrong workset is listed with its element id.
  5. Use Select & Zoom to review them, then move them yourself or with Workset Organizer.

Before you run it: Workset Organizer on the Data & Parameters panel uses the same rules and can move the elements for you across the whole model.

Template Compliance Checker Read-only check

Flags plans, 3D views, elevations and sections with no view template or a template meant for another kind of view, plus your own rules.

Ribbon button: View Templates

  1. Click Template Compliance Checker on the QA/QC panel.
  2. Add any rules: view type + name contains, and the expected template. Press Enter after each cell edit.
  3. Type text in Ignore views containing to skip views such as working views.
  4. Run the check, then use Select & Zoom on a row to open that view.
  5. Fix the views yourself, or use Apply View Templates on the Project Setup panel.

Before you run it: Run it before issuing drawings or after creating many views. Apply View Templates can show only views without a template, which makes the fix quicker.

Pre-Sync Audit Read-only check

Gives a one-click summary of problems to check before Sync with Central, with each line pointing to the detailed check.

Ribbon button: Pre-Sync

  1. Open the model you are about to sync and click Pre-Sync.
  2. Read the summary: warnings, open ends, elements without a system, imported CAD, worksets, ownership and unsaved changes.
  3. For any line with issues, run the detailed check it points to.
  4. When you are happy with the result, sync with central as usual.

Before you run it: Use it at the end of the day too, to see which worksets you still have editable and which MEP elements you own before you hand over.
